HoyosID uses biometrics to secure personal data
Digital security specialist, Hoyos Labs, has released a mobile app that enables consumers to use biometrics to securely and seamlessly replace the usernames and passwords for all of their favorite websites.
The HoyosID mobile app leverages the user’s smart phone to acquire biometric identifiers without any additional hardware. By securely pairing a user’s mobile device to their personal computers or tablet, HoyosID enables authentication to move out of a browser’s username and password fields and on to the mobile device.
Upon downloading HoyosID onto your smart phone and pairing your chosen devices, middleware is installed into the browser, creating a secure link. Multiple devices can be paired, and users can share their account with others, such as family members or business partners.
Once the account is activated and the devices are paired, users can add any website that they choose and enter their login information only once. From then on, when a user selects a website to log into from the app, his or her biometrics are acquired and verified to grant access to the site.
The app uses a smart phone’s front-facing camera to capture the user’s periocular, iris and facial data to identify and log-in the user to the chosen website on his or her desktop or tablet device. The app also employs liveness detection to distinguish a real person from an image or video and pattern matching to verify that the person who is attempting to log-on matches their the true identity.
Authentication takes less than a minute and enables access to the user’s favorite sites, ranging from Facebook to online banking and more.
Entrust leverages 3M Cogent biometrics for authentication program
A partnership between Entrust and 3M Cogent is integrating biometric fingerprint authentication into the Entrust IdentityGuard software authentication platform.
This collaboration will enable organizations to leverage fingerprint when authenticating its users for logical access to workstations. Entrust is embedding 3M Cogent fingerprint capture and verification technology, which will be available to both new and current Entrust IdentityGuard customers who subscribe to software maintenance support services.
Entrust IdentityGuard, the company’s flagship offering, is a robust authentication and identity-assurance platform. It offers a wide range of authenticators – smart cards, mobile smart credentials and digital certificates – on a single platform. Adding 3M Cogent’s authentication capabilities to the Entrust IdentityGuard portfolio will enable companies to streamline secure access to both cloud and internal systems.
Morpho unveils multi-use biometric tablet
The MorphoTablet housed both a fingerprint reader and a high-resolution camera to capture and verify biometric data. The device features tamper-proof hardware and integrated encryption functions to provide enhanced security when dealing with sensitive data and transactions.
Morpho has announced its latest biometric solution in the MorphoTablet, a compact touchscreen device that enables secure mobile data operations using fingerprint, facial recognition and cryptographic functions.
The device features a 7-inch touch screen, and is light and compact, and supports both contact and contactless functionality, including NFC. The tablet is base on the Android operating system and can stay connected anywhere, as the tablet supports WiFi, Bluetooth and cellular networks.
The MorphoTablet could see use in a number of environments including banks, insurance companies and other service providers who need to acquire sensitive data – personal information, fingerprints, photos, signatures and administrative documents – to open an account not only in their offices, but also at customers’ doorsteps. The tablet comes with a software development kit that enables companies to create tailored applications for their customers.
The MorphoTablet is FBI-certified, and its sensor complies with the PIV IQS (Personal Identity Verification-Image Quality Specifications) standard.
