Biometric attendance measures to rein in absentee teachers

Students aren’t the only ones who play hooky. Teachers are too, at least at India’s Delhi University. To combat this issue, the school is implementing a biometric system that will track attendance for both students and teachers.
The teacher absenteeism problem has been going on for quite a while. Predictably, the move towards a biometric system has been opposed by teachers’ unions.
Biometric devices are expected to be installed soon, although it wasn’t clear what type of system will be put in place. The most likely solution will be a fingerprint scanner.
The Delhi High Court had already given its backing to the program and the Executive Council of the Delhi University has given authority to the vice chancellor to decide and implement the program.
