Smart Card Alliance sets agenda for NFC Solutions Summit 2012

The Smart Card Alliance has revealed the full three-day agenda for its NFC Solutions Summit 2012 to be held in Burlingame, Calif. from May 22-24.
Hosted in partnership with the NFC Forum, the 2012 Summit will bring together NFC industry leaders to discuss both payments and non-payments uses of NFC-enabled devices.
The conference begins on May with a full day of keynote speakers and roundtable panel sessions on topics including:
- Sizing Up The Market For NFC-Enabled Mobile Devices and Applications
- NFC Mobile Payments: Are We There Yet?
- NFC Beyond Payments: Will Identity and Data Exchange Services Outshine the Wallet?
- Making the Case for NFC Payment Services with Merchants?
- Using GlobalPlatform Standards for Keeping NFC Users and Applications Secure
- NFC for Identity Credentialing and Access Control
- Lessons Learned from International NFC Cities
On the second day, attendees will be invited to choose from multi-speaker panel sessions separated into NFC Technology and NFC Business Solutions tracks. Day three of the Summit will be an “open conference” format, using a facilitator to enlist attendees to propose self-organizing sessions and presentations in areas dealing with NFC technology and business adoption issues and opportunities.
“This conference format is unique in that there is something for all NFC industry stakeholders, regardless of education level or business focus,” said Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Smart Card Alliance. “They can attend as listeners, or lead sessions as experts.”
The Smart Card Alliance is also hosting three separate full-day pre-conference workshops on May 21. “NFC Base Camp: The Fundamentals of NFC Mobile Technology and Business Applications Workshop” is intended for business managers involved in NFC services, while “NFC Base Camp: NFC Mobile Technology and Standards Workshop” is intended for technology managers involved in applying NFC technology on mobile devices.
The third workshop is for payments industry professionals seeking to earn the first certification dedicated to smart card-based payments, the Certified Smart Card Industry Professional/Payments (CSCIP/P) credential.
“At a time when it is still unclear if 2012 will be the year that NFC reaches mass market consumers, this conference will be the venue to discuss and work out the issues that are challenging the adoption of NFC for payments and non-payments use cases,” concluded Vanderhoof.
