The initial phase of the Israeli smart card system that will identify commercial and general aviation aircraft flying into the country will launch in April, according to a Flightglobal.com news report.
At first all general aviation pilots approaching Israeli airspace will have to identify themselves using the system and the program will be rolled out to all commercial aircraft flying into the country.
The “Code Positive” system has been developed by Elbit Systems and uses special smart cards that will be given to pilots that regularly fly to Israel to verify their identity. Israeli air traffic control will use a special control centre connected to the system to clear each aircraft to continue.
