WYITA gets a cash boost for smart card ticketing system

West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority (WYITA received a cash boost in its plans to roll out a smart card-based ticketing system, according to The Telegraph & Argus.
The local transit, in partnership with bus operators and the region’s five district councils, was awarded £5 million from the Department for Transport (DfT), from it’s Better Bus Area Fund. WYITA will use the money to help fund the installation of a smart card ticketing system, which will allow passengers load money on to their tickets, similar to London’s Oyster card.
Smart card-style tickets are planned to be rolled out on buses in Bradford and across West Yorkshire, offering range of new products and ticket services designed for making bus travel more accessible and easy to use.
Also announced was funding for low carbon buses, part of the Government’s Green Bus Fund, which aims to encourage a switch to hybrid-electric, fully electric or gas buses.
