The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will implement a pilot program to test MorphoTrust USA’s ID scanners as an means to provide a smoother airline passenger security screening process.

The new system is called Credential Authentication Technology / Boarding Pass Scanning System (CAT/BPSS) and will automatically verify multiple security features on an ID document. The TSA intends for the new project to enhance the current screening process, which relies on human eyes, ultra-violet lights and loupes for authentication of passenger travel documents.

MorphoTrust’s CAT/BPSS product will scan and authenticate driver licenses, passports and other common identification, then it will correlate the validated passengers with their boarding passes.

This system is currently being tested at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU).
