Identive Group, Inc. has launched a new RFID tag that contains a contactless smart card microprocessor. This Smartag Crypto tag allows for a smaller, more flexible form factor that can handle the capabilities of smart card in high-security, high-functionality applications.

The tag can be used for ID credentials or applications that require more processing, memory or cryptographic capabilities. The tag contains security features to protect and manage personal information and privileges.

The tag functions in traditional, mobile and future secure environments and can be attached to a mobile phone or embedded into different types of credentials, including wristbands and badges. It’s able to perform applications such as payment, network logon, physical access, transportation, digital signatures and authentication to e-health and e-government programs.

The Smartag Crypto tag is currently available as a sticker form factor that can adhere to a mobile device. It is also available with NXP Semiconductors’ SmartMX PKI and Inside Secure’s contactless picopass ICs. In early 2013, Identive plans to introduce a peel and apply convertible tag embedded within an ID1-sized card body.
