Smart Sensors develops new iris matching system

18 October, 2011

Smart Sensors has announced it has developed FastMatch, a new matching system for iris-based biometric systems that performs one-to-many matches capable of up to one trillion matches a second.

The developers see their new solution as a fit for use in civilian identity programs due to not only its speed and capabilities, but also its low CPU load, hardware requirements, as the system can rely on storage systems as simple as off-the-shelf solid state disk technology, and power consumption when compared to other one-to-many solutions. Additionally, Smart Sensor officials see a future for the new technology in military or law enforcement applications due to its fast matching speed and large capacity for matches that could be useful when matching a sample against large databases for watch lists or other similar lists.
