The Smart Card Alliance has updated its EMV roadmap white paper “Card Payments Roadmap in the United States: How will EMV Impact the Future Payments Infrastructure?” with new information for 2012.

The white paper is an educational tool for stakeholders to learn the various aspects os installing EMV capabilities within their businesses. This second edition is updated from the February 2011 edition and now contains the implementation guidelines for American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa.

The paper also includes an overview of the EMV specifications and implementation options for issuers, acquirers/processors, merchants and ATM operators. It looks at contactless cards and NFC specifications. The paper also details actions needed to issue EMV cards and accept and process EMV transactions.
