Security feature protects identity cards post-issuance

In an effort to protect laser-engraved polycarbonate documents, Swiss-based Trueb Group has released a new security feature called tru/window LOCK. This technology can protect travel and identity documents like passports and national ID cards.

The technology uses a laser ablation personalization process that puts a ghost image onto a metallic foil that’s integrated into a transparent window. If the document is altered, the ghost image will leave traces, and the document will easily show the tell-tale signs of manipulation.

Trueb will be presenting the tru/window LOCK feature at the Cartes & Identification expo in Paris on Nov. 15 – 17.
