Royal Adelaide Hospital in South Australia has partnered with technology specialist Visionstream to deploy an approximately $74 million solution that includes some thousands of tracked RFID tags, according to The Register.

The integrated wireless network will be deployed throughout the facility which will combine tagging and tracking functionality to manage both patient intake and care, as well as track availability of health care equipment throughout the hospital.

Visionstream’s unified communications system include wired and wireless handsets, 550 network devices, 25,000 physical network connections, 2000 wireless access points, 4200 fixed phones, 550 wireless phones and thousands of tracked RFID tags.

The project is designed in conjunction with the South Australian Government’s new model of medicinal care which focuses on using technology to enable safe care solutions, reducing time spent on admin and increasing clinician-patient time.
