The St. Albert Public Library in Canada is set to install a $500,000 RFID system to facilitate the tedious task of sorting returned materials before they are shelved, according to local news reports.
The city’s council approved the new system during a recent meeting, with the City of St. Albert also agreeing to cover the majority of the expanse. This new system will lend a hand with the bulk of library operations, allowing staff to focus their attention on more important areas such as helping patrons.
St. Albert Public Library will soon commence in the tagging of all books, DVDs, audio books and CDs. The RFID system is expected to bring St. Albert in line with systems used at other libraries in the region, allowing for greater co-operation between them.
