Malaysia’s Immigration Department is to introduce RFID technology at the end of the year to detect false visa stickers and the duration of the visa in passports, according to reports from Bernama (a Malaysian news agency).

The department’s director-general, Datuk Wahid Md Don, said detection would be made possible with a RFID reader or short messaging system (SMS).

“This system will facilitate our officers in detecting false visa documents and in determining the duration of the visa,” he reportedly said when the news was announced.
