Parrot reveals first NFC-enabled headphones

Wireless device manufacturer Parrot has unveiled a pair of NFC-enabled wireless headphones.

The new Zik headphones feature an NFC chip embedded in the left ear cup, enabling the user to establish a Bluetooth connection with other NFC-enabled devices with a simple tap. For example, users can tap their NFC phone against their Zik headphones to connect the device for receiving calls, or play a track from their mobile music library.

On the right ear cup, Parrot has installed a touch panel that controls the volume and track skipping options. The user runs his finger up or down to change the volume and forward or backward to skip or replay a track. To take an incoming call or pause the track, the user simply taps the right ear cup once.

A built in head sensor automatically pauses the music when the user slides the headphones down around his neck. The same motion will also automatically switch a phone call in progress to the user’s mobile phone.

The headphones will be available in the U.S. within the next few weeks at a price of $400. Check out the full list of features on Parrot’s website.
