Morpho receives certification for fake finger detection
Morpho has attained the first-ever ISO Common Criteria certification for the detection of fake fingerprints. The company’s MorphoSmart Optic 301 fingerprint reader has undergone analysis and testing in order to meet the industry standards for spoof detection. The reader is designed to analyze specific features of the human skin to detect and reject spoofing attacks. The device is being used in a wide variety of applications including access control, border control and bank transactions such as cash withdrawal and payment.
Army seeking industry COTS tactical biometric demonstrations
The U.S. Department of Defense is looking for the ability to collect biometric and contextual information in a tactical environment. To facilitate its search, the U.S. Army is inviting companies and colleges developing tactical biometric solutions to take part in field demonstrations to determine the effectiveness of their commercial off-the-shelf solutions. The demonstrations are scheduled to take place from July 29 to August 23 at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Interested parties can seek additional information here.
Sony Cyber-shot camera gets NFC
Sony has produced its first ever NFC-enabled camera with the launch of the RX100 II Cyber-shot, an updated version of the company’s RX100 device. In addition to enhanced image capture, the addition of NFC means that the new camera model can establish Wi-Fi connections to Android smartphones via ‘One Touch’ NFC for sharing and uploading content. The new One Touch Remote feature allows a phone to be used to take a picture from a distance. The camera is available for pre-order at an expected retail price of $990.
