The safe, called MedixSafe, utilizes three-factor authentication to open including a PIN, proximity card and fingerprint scan.

The new solution aims to eases the process that includes interviews, investigations, research and occasional turning over of the case to the FBI when theft of drugs from traditional drug cabinets in emergency medical service vehicles occurs.

According to paramedics already using the solution, the idea of people being tracked each time they open the safe to find drugs such as morphine or fentanyl acts as enough of a deterrent to theft.
