New bike share system provides transportation alternative for campuses
On Bike Share, Bristol, R.I., is scheduled to roll out this spring a campus bike share system designed to make bicycling a part of college campus transportation.
The system provides colleges and universities with the ability to automate existing bike fleets and makes implementation, maintenance, and tracking fast and easy through a series of solutions designed specifically for campus environments.
With key locking technology, back-end software, and a bicycle with chainless technology, the system reduces maintenance and costs. Registered users can remove the chainless bike from the locking system using their existing ID card. The bike’s integrated lock also enables riders the ability to use the bike where needed and lock it to any standard bike rack.
“Campuses are always looking for ways to be more green,” said David Boyce, co-founder of On Bike Share. The On Bike Share system can track how often the bikes are being used which ensures that the bikes remain in good working order, he added.
On Bike Share’s chainless technology and key locking innovation reduces maintenance and safety issues, said Boyce. “With over 90% of all bike maintenance costs attributed to chain and derailleur systems, our customers will benefit from the advantages that chainless bikes provide.”
