Research firm Javelin Strategy & Research says that mobile devices are primed to become the next big tool for distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks against corporate web sites, reports PC Advisor.

A mix of rising bandwidth and processing power, along with low device security makes smart phones and tablets easy to compromise. Using a mobile device for a DDoS attack also requires less technical skill, says Javelin.

Last year the Android.DDoS.1.origin malware showed up in the field as a Google Play app that then infected the device, and the Low Orbit Ion Cannon DDoS tool had been reworked for the Android platform.

Although no attacks have yet come from mobile devices, experts believe they could soon arrive. The Android platform is particularly vulnerable because many stores sell Android-based apps.
