Medical marijuana dispensing system leverages biometrics

According to Mass High Tech, California-based Medbox launched its medical marijuana dispensing system in Massachusetts. The system leverages biometrics to provide safe and secure distrbution of cannabis.

Medbox’s patented technology involves hardware and software and uses fingerprinting to verify a physician’s authorization and ensure that a patient hasn’t exceeded state dispensing limits. The system tracks this information through HIPPA-compliant methods.

Massachusetts is one of 18 states that offer the Medbox system. Most states do not have clear regulations around medical marijuana dispensing.
