The Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association and the Massachusetts Major City Chiefs have selected MorphoTrust Inc. to provide its anti-counterfeiting technology to the police departments throughout the state, according to a report in Mass High Tech.

Law enforcement officials in Massachusetts have carried credentials that don’t include any security elements, such as holograms, that would make it more difficult to copy. MorphoTrust started issuing the credentials last year.

The Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association did not disclose all of the security features of the IDs, but said they included an optical variable device that is similar t those used on Massachusetts drivers’ licenses. Other overt security features include a ghost image in the lower right corner and overlapping data. Each card has its own serial number so that, if lost or stolen, it can be entered into the National Crime Information Center.

So far, 13,000 law enforcement officials from departments throughout the state have been using the new ID cards that include the MorphoTrust’s technology.
