Malaysia’s Touch ‘n Go card coming to NFC phones

Malaysia-based electronic payments provider Touch ‘n Go (TnG) will introduce a mobile version of its prepaid smart card for NFC-enabled phones within the next two months, according to The Sun Daily.

The mobile Touch ‘n Go app will support a number of contactless functions, including transit ticketing, payment, loyalty, access control, tag reading and peer-to-peer transactions.

The company is working with with local teleco Maxis and bank CIMB to pilot the NFC solution. According to TnG chief officer Abdul Karim Md Lassim, after six months the company will offer the service to other Malaysian telecos.

Abdul Karim added that so far TnG has invested over over half a million ringgit ($158,000) to develop the NFC service, excluding investments by Maxis and CIMB.
