Isis to debut on BlackBerry, Android and iPhone in August

Isis, the mobile payments joint venture from Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, will likely launch its service this August on Android and BlackBerry smart phones with embedded NFC, as well as on iPhones with NFC sleeve attachments, an inside source has told CNET.

Although it has been known for some time that Isis will debut in Salt Lake City, Utah and Austin, Texas this summer, this is the first handset specific news to come out of the mobile payments venture.

According to CNET, the service will integrate smoothly on Android and BlackBerry phones with NFC chips already embedded in their hardware. For the iPhone, which does not include native NFC, Isis will offer sleeves with NFC chips that allow the handset to make contactless transactions.

There are several BlackBerry models on the market that support NFC, including the Bold 9900/9930 and BlackBerry Curve 9350/9360. Android models such as the new Galaxy S III, the Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus also feature the technology.

Isis has declined to comment on which phones will carry the service at launch, according to CNET.
