Isis to debut in September

After months of delay, mobile commerce joint venture Isis is set to debut its NFC payments service next month, reports Bloomberg.

Doug Bergeron, CEO of payment terminal maker VeriFone, told Bloomberg that the partners are prepared for a September launch in Salt Lake City and Austin, Texas. Isis declined to add any more specific information about the launch, but did say that the service would go live “this summer,” which officially ends Sept. 21, notes Bloomberg.

Isis was originally scheduled to launch in Salt Lake and Austin in early 2012, before being pushed back to the summer. According to Bloomberg, the delay afforded Isis time to change its strategy to allow credit card companies to handle transactions instead of the carriers themselves.

“The focus has been: Get it right, make sure it’s secure,” commented Brad Duea, SVP of product management at T-Mobile USA.
