ievo, a developer of biometric solutions, has developed new technology that can detect attempts at spoofing fingerprint readers and has proven as much during a test by the forensic team at Police Port, according to a Build.co.u article.

Among some of the features built into ievo’s matching algorithm that enables the reader to detect fake fingerprints are its ability to detect an absence or presence of blood as well as searching out the difference in the refractive index.

Additionally, the new technology enables administrators to set thresholds for the spoofing factors so that the security applications can ensure the lowest number of false positives possible.

ievo’s new detection technology, while working with their own fingerprint readers, is not intended to replace an existing system. It is being touted as easily integrated into existing card, PIN or fob-based systems as an extra layer of security.
