Harman, Rinspeed reveal NFC auto dashboard

Harman and Rinspeed have unveiled an NFC-enabled dashboard at the Geneva Motor Show.

Now on display in the partners’ “Dock+Go” concept vehicle, the dash enables NFC phone users to sync their handset with the car to automatically to load their personal comfort settings, such as seat positions, favorite music and stereo levels, as well as load emails, contacts, calendar entries, and Facebook and Twitter accounts via the system’s Aha cloud-connected platform.

The dash also features “Learning Navigation,” a personalized navigation system that monitors and “learns” the user’s driving habits, such as speed and braking patterns, his preferred routes and his interactions with the system. Based on this data, the system’s human-machine interface (HMI) display will, for example, change the zoom factor between intersection mode and regular view.

As a safety feature, the navigation system also detects driver alertness through sensors that measure the driver’s steering wheel movements, voice timbre, and braking and accelerating behavior, to propose less risky routes or suggest stopping for a rest.

For entertainment, the system’s Aha platform grants the driver access to multimedia content including audio books, radio, music services, podcasts, and location based services, i.e. on-the-fly coupons, directly from the cloud.
