Ghana to introduce biometric passports

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Ghana is expected to announce a timetable for the introduction of passports containing biometric data on the individual, according to a Graphic Ghana article. The government had originally intended to begin introduction of the program starting in July, however, after encountering various issues including insufficient equipment for biometric enrollment and database maintenance, they pushed the implementation date back.
Despite not having set an official timeline yet for the public, Minister Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni has assured that they will meet the International Civil Aviation Authority deadline of 2010. Further, once they have heard a decision from the United Nations on their request to a claim of the extended continental shelf, the ministry is confident they will have all the facts and figures necessary to release a set timetable for the program.
