Georgia Joins List of Countries in Developing Biometric Passports

Georgia joins the growing list of countries moving towards a biometric passport. Starting next year, Georgian citizens will be able to obtain a passport which utilizes a RFID computer chip to store identity information about the traveler. An embedded contactless chip holds the digital signature data. Facial, fingerprint and iris recognition will all be adopted. Georgia hopes that a biometric passport will help fight counterfeiting and assist in lifting visa regimes with European states. The country has already collected biometric data on 2.3 million of their citizens.
