The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has started capturing and sharing palm prints along with fingerprints when fingerprinting people.

As reported by WCTV, the GBI will now be able to share palm print information throughout the state as part of its expanded “Automated Fingerprint Identification System.”

Many crime scene units around the state have been preparing for this development and have been building databases of palm prints for the last two years.

The system will give more access to federal data, as well as help agencies better identify criminals, especially in cases where crime scenes have palm prints but no fingerprints.
