Fujitsu, Crystal partner for new biometric security solution

Fujitsu Frontech North America has integrated its vascular-based biometric authentication solution PalmSecure with fellow IT solutions developer Crystal IT’s Avert Access Control logical access control system.

The new solution combines both RFID and biometric technology for authenticating an individual’s identity to ensure only authorized users may access protected work stations and specific data or networks on the work stations.

In addition to simply managing access, however, the new system also manages user sessions wherein a workstation will be automatically logged out and locked should a user walk away from the workstation removing nearly any chance for a fraudster to pose as another for access to sensitive information.

While the previous Crystal IT solution was still a two-factor authentication, it utilized passwords with the RFID authentication which led to issues surrounding lost or forgotten passwords. Due to the inclusion of biometric authentication in place of passwords, the two companies expect the new solution to improve work flow and operations for those employing the new solution as it will remove problems related to reissuance or recovering of passwords.
