Two Texas police departments have successfully used live fingerprint scans to serve a warrant in conjunction with a 15-year-old murder case.
The Carrollton and Lewisville, Tex. police departments used Plano-based Mentalix Inc.’s Submit live scan system to nab the suspect, Danny Elenilson Osorio. Lewisville police officers stopped Osorio in March on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Osorio gave a fake name and birth date, and police arrested him and took him to the Lewisville jail.
There they fingerprinted Osorio with the live scan system, which matched his prints to his real identity and showed an outstanding warrant in Carrollton for the 1997 murder of Scott Beitinger. Osorio is the last of four suspects to be arrested in conjunction with this crime. The other three had already been arrested and convicted.
Live scan fingerprint systems allow police departments to discover true identities of suspects in real time. The live scans replace an ink and card systems that could take up to a month to provide identity confirmation.
