The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Maryland has implemented an RFID tracking solution from FileTrail, an automated system which will be used to track cadavers and office case files.

The 7-story building will be equipped with RFID sensors place above the drop-ceiling at designated locations throughout. This will automate case file tracking, allowing users to the view the current location as they are moved among clerks’ cubicles, elevator lobbies and key transitions areas.

Another component of the installed solution, the RFID SmartMobile portable handheld, also makes it possible to find missing files quickly and efficiently. The RIFD SmartMobile can identify a missing file from six to eight feet away.

Additionally, coolers equipped with RFID technology will automatically check cadavers in and out and allow transplant specialist to focus their use time to more reliably determine the viability of organs for transplant, benefiting not only the office but those relying on organ transplants.
