Facebook is asking some of its popular users to help it test a new accounts verification service by uploading photos of their government-issued IDs, reports TPM.
Facebook wants to be able to verify people’s identities for its new “Subscribe” feature and plans to use government ID information to do so, claiming it will permanently delete the information after the verification process.
The types of IDs accepted for this endeavor vary from the the traditional passport and driver’s license, to alternative types of ID, including school IDs, library cards, birth certificates, credit cards and even social security cards.
Facebook hasn’t said how it will designate verified accounts but it will enable verified users to enable pseudonyms on their Facebook pages.
