Entrust releases new IdentityGuard

Entrust Inc. announced the release of Entrust IdentityGuard 10.0, which brings together security solutions for three worlds – physical, logical and mobile access.

This latest update to Entrust´s authentication platform offers users a single platform that delivers a range of authenticators on the market, provides secure access through mobile platforms for business and is designed to simplify the issuance and management of smart cards by integrating card and certificate management.

Entrust IdentityGuard 10.0 enables organizations to manage and deploy a range of unique authenticators simultaneously which can be issued based on specific requirements, associated risk and cost. The platform leverages one administrative interface which enables organizations to manage and adjust security for a range of user groups, ranging from millions of consumers to a select group of senior executives.

By offering smart credentials under Entrust IdentityGuard 10.0, organizations can also potentially simplify the issuance and management of smart cards to better integrate physical and logical security.

Entrust On Premises or Managed Services PKI is integrated into Entrust IdentityGuard 10.0, offering users the ability to issue and manage smart cards. Organizations do not have to immediately implement both physical and logical access solutions, with the platform, users have the flexibility to address logical and physical access requirements in a staged deployment.

Entrust IdentityGuard 10.0 also enables certificate-based enrollment and authentication for mobile devices. Using the platform, users can register their mobile device through the Entrust IdentityGuard Self Service Module and have a digital ID downloaded directly onto their device.

“While the malware threat against smart phones will grow, we do not believe the same approach used to secure PCs in the past will be effective, let alone efficient, against smart phone threats. Enterprises need to be more flexible, focusing on security approaches to enable secure use of a wider range of devices. All this adds up to the need for new approaches to develop security processes and controls as smartphone use grows, ” said John Pescatore and John Girard, both vice presidents and analysts with Gartner in a report released in October.

This builds on existing mobile capabilities including providing users with independent activation and control to manage security for multiple identities based on one device. It also helps organizations fight the persistent advance of fraud techniques through out-of-band authentication capabilities enhanced with the inclusion of one-time-passcode SMS soft tokens.
