Discover Financial Services plans to pilot a biometric and contactless card system to learn the viability of biometric consumer payments, reports Finextra.

The pilot will take place in the U.S., and Discover is working with French firm Natural Security on the program. The trial will have biometric data linked to a contactless card that will function within one and a half meters of a payment terminal.

Users will be able to keep their cards stowed away and authenticate payments with a fingerprint. The system will work with both magnetic stripe and EMV-formatted cards.
