Cubic Defense Applications, San Diego, has enhanced its Tri-Reader to comply with the contactless technology of the passport standard issued by the United States. Improvements include a 2.0 USB version of the Tri-Reader, plus updates to its firmware allowing it to read and write to ICAO specifications.

Cubic Announces Major Enhancements to its Tri-Reader Technology

SAN DIEGO(Business Wire)–Cubic Defense Applications, Inc., a unit of Cubic Corporation (AMEX:CUB), is proud to announce it has made three key enhancements to Cubic’s proven Tri-Reader(R) family of products that make it compliant with the new contactless U.S. passport standard. Cubic’s proprietary Tri-Reader technology is what enables various types of contactless smart cards to be processed as the cards are waved or passed over the reader device.

Cubic now offers a USB (Universal Serial Bus) 2.0 version of the Tri-Reader contactless reader/writer. Also, enhancements have been made to Tri-Reader firmware that allow it to read and write the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Logical Data Structure (LDS) for the new contactless United States passport standard. Finally, a Software Development Kit, or SDK, is available for the Tri-Reader, which allows its functionality to be accessed from Microsoft Windows-based programs.

As with all Tri-Reader technology, the above enhancements are compliant with the ISO 14443 standard, including Type A cards, Type B cards, and Cubic’s own GO CARD(R) System technology.

Cubic operates in two major business areas: defense and transportation. The Cubic Defense Applications group provides realistic combat training systems for military forces as well as mission support, simulation, force modernization, leadership development and operations & maintenance. The group also supplies products and systems for C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance) applications, search and rescue avionics and radio communications for military and civil markets. Cubic Transportation Systems designs and manufactures automatic fare collection systems for public mass transit, including rail and buses throughout the world.
