As the Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) takes its first steps to expand train service into Silicon Valley, it is also bringing its regionally interoperable Clipper Card payment system to its new customers.
Warm Springs Constructors, the consortium that is building the BART Warm Springs Track Extension Project, has awarded Cubic Transportation Systems a $10 million contract to expand its electronic transit fare payment system to Warm Springs/South Fremont and integrate it into the Clipper system.
Cubic has delivered systems and services to BART since the company’s first contract in 1974, organizing the region onto a single smart card across multiple agencies and multiple transit modes.
The Warm Springs Extension, scheduled to open in 2015, will add 5.4 miles of new track from the existing Fremont Station south to the Warm Springs District in Fremont.
