Confidex, a supplier of contactless fare media, has been selected by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) in the western area of Scotland to supply a large volume of contactless ITSO smart tickets for use across the underground Glasgow Subway system.
The smart ticketing system will replace the current magnetic stripe tickets in use across the underground system and replace it with a system based on the national specificationfor smart ticketing in the UK.
The regional transport says this key part of its modernization work is a move away from traditional paper tickets to a smart card system, and it intends to roll out the technology across its 15 stations later this year. Tickets will be encoded and issued from vending machines, parking machines and ticket offices.
SPT also plans to expand smart ticketing beyond the Subway system and in due course will be available on bus, train, and ferry services.
Confidex will showcase its contactless fare media offering at Transport Ticketing 2013 conference & expo, in London UK, on January 28-30, 2013.
