Chinavision releases affordable biometric solution

Chinavision, an electronics provider, has released a new facial recognition system that can operate as both a time and attendance tracker as well as a physical access control device, according to a Singularity Hub article. The system, which can authenticate up to 500 people based off their pre-loaded facial images, takes pictures of individuals via two embedded night-vision cameras enabling it to work in a variety of different lighting.

In addition to the capabilities of the system, it is being touted with a price tag of $465.

Despite the low price, some are skeptical of its accuracy and abilities to not be fooled by fraudsters. While the system from Chinavision does have two cameras to take pictures in stereo for better facial authentication, facial recognition does not tout the accuracy rates of other biometrics.
