CBORD: iCLASS and the latest contactless solutions

Robert Lemley, director of Software Development with CBORD, details the latest contactless credentials and discusses the pros and cons of selecting a solution.

Lemley explains what solutions like HID’s iCLASS and MIFARE’s DESFire EV1 can offer by examining costs, features and functionalities.

Lemley believes that the day of multiple credential support is coming.

“Today, we can’t do multiple credentials on a single card,” explains Lemley. “I think that soon, in the next 2-3 years, we will be able to buy multiple credentials and load them all on the same card.”

The rate of change in the contactless market is incredible. Lemley offers valuable insight, but ultimately prescribes a wait-and-see approach for those looking to implement a contactless solution.

“If you’re making a choice today I’ll tell you what today’s favorite is, but I will also tell that if you don’t have to make a decision today, don’t,” says Lemley. “Wait, because things are going to change.”
