Brandon transit equips smart cards, expands payment options

The city of Brandon, the second largest city in Manitoba, Canada, is offering residents and visitors a new way to ride the local transit through the implementation of automated fare boxes with smart card technology, according to the Brandon Sun.

Starting Dec. 10, the new smart card system will enable passengers flexibility when purchasing their passes by eliminating the current monthly pass in place of a new smart card that can be activated at any time.

Passengers will be able to purchase the new smart cards at all of the current locations in Brandon. Smart cards will replace all monthly passes as well as the existing ticket books.

The cards can be reloaded through a simple process at the Transit Info Centre, where they can also be registered to insure against loss, damage and theft. The transit will continue
