Canadian company Blackbird International Corp. has announced its acquisition of Insight ID, a real-time authentication service that verifies a person through a Web browser and Internet connection.

Blackbird has two main divisions, a casino and gaming center operation, and a Technology and Business Services division, that develops and manages gaming and supply chain management software. Blackbird intends to integrate Insight ID into its Technology and Business Services division.

Insight ID has applied for patents for its technology. It’s also developed a Global Authentication Exchange server for multi-national database connectivity.

Blackbird will be able to offer document authentication services for many types of retail, commercial and security checks. Potential industries for this technology include the rental car industry, which must verify authenticity of drivers’ licenses and permits.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
