Biometric companies encouraged to submit for DHS Biometric Technology Rally

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate will host its second Biometric Technology Rally in spring 2019. Companies wishing to participate must submit a white paper and video demo of their product for consideration by November 30, 2018.
We are expanding the test to include cutting-edge fingerprint systems as well as opening participation to algorithm vendors. We believe this will further accelerate improvements in biometric system performance that benefits DHS and our mission partners
The rally allows DHS to test the speed and performance of various biometric products in pseudo realistic conditions. The event also includes a Stakeholder Demonstration Day that allows government and private sector attendees to experience the products as well.
The 2019 event will be held in Marlboro, MD at the DHS’ Maryland Test Facility. The ongoing goal is to encourage industry to develop high throughput fingerprint, iris and face recognition technologies that are robust enough to support demanding government implementations.
This year, developers of biometric matching algorithms can also enter products in the rally.
The first rally was held in March 2018 and received both strong participant and attendee support.
“The 2018 rally established very aggressive objective and threshold metrics for speed, performance and user satisfaction,” Arun Vemury, director of DHS S&T’s Biometrics and Identity Technology Center, said. “While some rally participants met a few criteria, no single commercial offering was able to meet all objectives. Additionally, we are expanding the test to include cutting-edge fingerprint systems as well as opening participation to algorithm vendors. We believe this will further accelerate improvements in biometric system performance that benefits DHS and our mission partners.”
Details on the dates and submission requirements will be released shortly at the Maryland Test Center web site.
