BART launches smart card payments for bicycle parking

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has announced the launch of a smart card system at the Ashby Bike Station, a brand new facility that provides provides secure parking for up to 128 bicycles.

According to BART, cyclists can now use smart cards to gain access to the facility and pay the three cents/hour bike parking fee.

BART says about 500 cyclists visit the Ashby Station each weekday. The new facility, which will be unveiled this evening in an open house, is expected to provide better security and convenience for cyclists commuting on BART lines.

There are three other BART Bike Stations in the Bay Area, including Downtown Berkeley, Fruitvaleand and Embarcadero.
