MasterCard’s PayPass contactless payment feature may soon be presented to the Azerbaijan market of cashless payments.
According to a recent MasterCard study, 75% of the local residents said they would like to use contactless payment cards in supermarkets and 60% to pay public transport fare. When asked which devices, in addition to a plastic card, it would be convenient to make payments, 86% of respondents said they would like to use their mobile phone.
“We work with banks of Azerbaijan to make fast, convenient and secure MasterCard PayPass technology to become available to residents of Baku this year, and the results of the study show that it will be regarded positively,” said Hakan Akar, regional manager of MasterCard in Azerbaijan.
MasterCard reports that contactless payments are already popular around the world, including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France and Turkey. Respondents from the study add that it would also be convenient to introduce a contactless option in either a watch or bracelet to make such payments.
