Austria’s VKB-Bank has selected Gemalto’s Ezio Edge Optic authentication product for its eBanking offering.

The system is an optical smart card reader that can read a smart debit card directly through a computer screen, tablet or mobile device without any specialized software. It can then authorize eBanking transactions while maintaining compliance with Austrian banking standards.

The portable Ezio Edge Optic device is placed in front of screen and instantly reads securely encoded transaction data needed for verification and transaction signature information that’s generated on the screen. Once the verification process is complete, users are free to conduct online transactions.

All VKB customers may obtain an Ezio Edge Optic reader through the bank’s branch offices.
