Assa Abloy launches smart reader for faster hospital care

Assa Abloy has released a smart reader designed for hospital employees to gain quick, secure access to patient information and other hospital applications.

The smart reader is a collaboration with HID Global and Dell, utilizing HID Global’s OMNIKEY 5321 reader and Dell’s Mobile Clinical Computing (MCC).

With MCC,’s data virtualization, health care staff can log onto any approved computer or tablet to access patient information. They can do so by swiping a smart card–which could be their ID–over the OMNIKEY 5321 reader and entering a password, which authenticates the user and grants access.

This system eliminates the need to remember multiple passwords across different platforms within a hospital setting.
