AIB Merchant Services, a merchant acquiring joint venture between First Data Corporation and Allied Irish Banks p.l.c, announced the launch of its first contactless payment terminals, activated at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre, in Dublin.

The contactless technology will enable customers to pay for refreshments up to the value of €15 by simply tapping their contactless-enabled device and, thus, reduce the wait in line during intermission, when time is limited.

The technology uses a wireless reader, and NFC technology, to transfer the necessary information required to securely complete the transaction, which can take place without the need for PIN entry.
